DOWNLOAD THE PDF FROM THE JUNE PRESENTATION HERE

PRESENTATION OVERVIEW:
Yale economics professor Robert Shiller and other financial economists think that the golden age of investing is over. Bonds can't go much higher and may actually fall as interest rates rise, and stocks are either fully valued or overvalued after a six-year bull market. In this provocative talk, he will make the case for this strategy based on his various historical studies and offer seven quality stocks that meet his criteria for for above-average profitability.

ATTEND THIS MEETING TO LEARN:
1. Why value stocks with high and rising dividends outperform growth stocks with low dividends.

PRESENTATION TOPIC--  Opportunities and Pitfalls in Dividend Investing

PRESENTATION OVERVIEW:
Dividend investing has become extremely popular in recent years as a low interest-rate environment has made dividend stocks more attractive. The problem is that dividend investing has become a "crowded trade" of sorts, with several areas and stocks in the dividend space becoming overvalued. The era of simply buying the highest-yielding stock is behind us. Dividend investors will need to be much more discerning if they are to maximize the opportunities in dividend stocks. This seminar will discuss both the opportunities and pitfalls in dividend investing and focus on the best approach for selecting dividend stocks.

ATTEND THIS MEETING TO LEARN:
1. Discover new factors to consider when investing in dividend stocks
2. Look at how dividend investing fits into a portfolio and the current market environment
3. My favorite dividend stocks will be provided at the discussion

REASONS TO ATTEND:
1. We present a free Web site -- www.bigsafedividends.com  -- that offers a wealth of dividend information and two important investment metrics -- our Quadrix score and BSD score -- that my firm uses to pick dividend stocks
2. To avoid the risks associated with high payout/high dividend stocks.
3. To explore increasing dividend stocks with a long term track record.

PRESENTATION TOPIC--  Making Sense of Master Limited Partnership Tax Rules

PRESENTATION OVERVIEW:
For those who are new to them, the first thing to understand is that an MLP is simply a publicly traded partnership (PTP). (Not all PTPs are MLPs, however; a number of PTPs are simply commodity pools.) By buying shares, technically referred to as “units,” in an MLP, you become a partner (or a “unitholder”) in this very large partnership. As a partner rather than a corporate shareholder, you enter a whole new world of taxation. Partnership taxation is what makes MLPs a tax-advantaged investment, but it also makes them more complex than many other investments.

As a partnership, an MLP is not considered to be a separate entity for tax purposes the way a corporation is, but rather is a pass-through entity—sort of an agglomeration of all its partners. An MLP does not pay corporate tax; instead, all the things that go into calculating tax—income, deductions, gain, losses and credits—are divided up among the unitholders as if they had earned the income themselves. Part III of the K-1 tells you your total share of each of these items.

PRESENTATION TOPIC--  Is Modern Portfolio Theory Ruining Your Portfolio?

PRESENTATION OVERVIEW:

The flawed assumption underpinning Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT). The consensus view has been that a well-diversified, index-type portfolio will deliver superior returns and it is this belief that has underpinned the unfathomable flow of capital to index fund over the past decades. However, as Vincent explains, there is compelling evidence that a sub-set of active managers persistently outperform indexes, suggesting a result inconsistent to the consensus view.

ATTEND THIS MEETING TO LEARN:
1. Modern portfolio theory has largely been discredited by empirical studies and academic research.
2. Despite this, we still rely on portfolio theory to make important financial decisions.
3. This disconnect is creating opportunities for equity investors who understand where to find them.

REASONS TO ATTEND:
1. Improve the performance of the equity portion of your portfolio.
2. Learn where to look for portfolio managers who consistently add value over time.

PRESENTATION TOPIC-- 'Big Yield Hunting on Deadly Ground'

PRESENTATION OVERVIEW:

In an era of slow and jagged economic growth and rock-bottom bond yields, Roger Conrad will argue that buying and holding dividend-paying stocks is the only way investors can live off their portfolios-- as well as the surest road to weath-building for savers. Many companies, however, are stuggling to keep up with dividend payments -- and if they do cut payouts, investors will lose both income and principal, as share prices head south. The keys to getting the most out of dividen-paying stocks, and avoiding the pitfalls, are diversification, balance and focusing on quality. Conrad will explore a range of sectors drawn from the extensive coverage universes of his advisories, from Canadian high-income stocks to U.S. utilities and master limited partnerships, highlighting the best and worst.

ATTEND THIS MEETING TO LEARN:
1. How to pick the best dividend-paying stocks for 2012 and well beyond.
2. How to use the techniques of portfolio balance and diversification to limit the risk of unforeseeable single-stock or single-sector disasters to you overall portfolio.
3. How to spot overly hyped "income graveyards" to avoid.

2. How the economy affects return.

PRESENTATION TOPIC-- 'Incorporating Political Economy into Investing'

PRESENTATION OVERVIEW:

Investors make the mistake often of basing their decision-making entirely on quantitative measures, or evaluations of firms' management, while overlooking macro political factors. Even though very important, these firm-specific factors can be overwhelmed in both the short- and long-runs by national and global political dimensions. Understanding political impacts can greatly improve an investor's assessment of the risk inherent in investments. Some insights will be offered on how current political trends affect stock market sectors. Bob, a former US Foreign Service Officer and CIA Analyst, who has been studying and applying political-economic analysis for over thirty years, will discuss how investors can incorporate consideration of political economy into their analytical processes.

3. To learn how to minimize risk associated with the political climate.

PRESENTATION TOPIC-- 'Understanding Tactical Asset Allocation'

PRESENTATION OVERVIEW:

Ken Solow will examine the problems with the traditional methods of portfolio construction based on Modern Portfolio Theory. As an alternative approach, he’ll explain Pinnacle Advisory Group’s method of tactical asset allocation, including how we determine value, how we generate excess returns, and how we’ve organized our team to succeed in today’s volatile market.

By reassigning and automating the asset allocation decision making inside the investment portfolio, investors can more efficiently manage their portfolio during volatile markets. By utilizing proven models, quant management can be a non-correlated asset during bear markets while participating during rising markets. This presentation will introduce investors to some of the general concepts of quantitative investing.

ATTEND THIS MEETING TO LEARN:
1. The serious weaknesses of Modern Portfolio Theory, particularly in a secular bear market.
2. Three ways to determine investment value.
3. What tactical asset allocation is, and is not. (The financial media gets this wrong all the time.)

REASONS TO ATTEND:
1. With the markets in an extend downturn, tactical asset allocation is the hot investment strategy right now. Ken Solow literally wrote the book on it (“Buy and Hold is Dead (Again): The Case for Active Portfolio Management in Dangerous Markets”) and his firm has been practicing it successfully for ten years.
2. You’ll learn how Modern Portfolio Theory can bankrupt you, even when it works.
3. Ken will outline the unique (and historic) dangers today’s market poses to the independent investor.

PRESENTATION TOPIC-- 'Why Alternative Investments Should Be Part of Your Portfolio'

PRESENTATION OVERVIEW:

Many Investors are embracing the concept of alternative investments in the face of more volatile markets. Historically, alternative shave a low correlation to equities. When stocks are down or flat, alternative are often up. However, alternatives can act as an anchor during bull markets, limit overall upside potential. A better "alternative" investment can be found in the area known as quantitative investing.

Typically, quantitative models have measurable entry and exit points that correspond to both high and low water marks. These models can automatically reduce exposure to equity investments when the market mighty be signaling a downturn and, alternatively, trigger an entry point during a predicted rise. In a quantitative model, deciding when a market is undervalued or rich is determined solely by the algorithm developed by the quant manager. Fundamental equity analysis is eschewed in this discipline, replaced by back-tested, statistically driven, proprietary models. These decisions are agnostic; detached from emotions and politics.

1. What alternative investments are and how they can be positioned in a portfolio
2. How quantitative investing can be positioned as an alternative investment
3. How to drastically control downside risk while still participating in the stock market
4. Why controlling downside risk should take precedent to maximizing returns

PRESENTATION TOPIC-- 'Habitat for Insanity-Opportunistic Investing When Safe Havens Are No Longer Safe'

PRESENTATION OVERVIEW:

RAfter three years of sloshing through the financial system, the toxic sludge from the 2008 Meltdown has finally been magically transformed into “sovereign” debt. This has created a financial crisis for both the U.S. and Europe. Meanwhile on Main Street, we’re all waiting to be handed the short end of the stick in the form of higher taxes. Yet despite all of these ominous shadows, somehow the U.S. interest rates remain at all time lows. And, the stock market continues to gyrate despite many large U.S. companies cranking out huge profits. Understanding this enigma points to where investment opportunity might be hiding!

U.S. Treasury Bills deemed as a “risk free” investment have been the cornerstone of most investment strategies for the past 75 years. With this fundamental concept now challenged, investors must re-think the inter-relationships of all their investments both domestically and globally. At this presentation, we will challenge conventional thinking and discuss practical alternatives.

ATTEND THIS MEETING TO LEARN:
1. Why the capital formation eco-system of the U.S. has been dangerously contaminated.
2. Why simply creating jobs is NOT the solution to America’s economic woes.
3. Why some safe haven investments are fraught with risk.

  •  Bond Types

** Investors should consider the investment objectives, charges, expense, and unique risk profile of an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) carefully before investing. Leveraged and Inverse ETFs may not be suitable for all investors and may increase exposure to volatility through the use of leverage, short sales of securities, derivatives and other complex investment strategies. These funds’ performance will likely be significantly different than their benchmark over periods of more than one day, and their performance over time may in fact trend opposite of their benchmark. Investors should monitor these holdings, consistent with their strategies, as frequently as daily. A prospectus contains this and other information about the ETF and should be obtained from the issuer. The prospectus should be read carefully before investing.
